Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday has given deadline of one week to mayor Waseem Akhrar to clean Karachi.

Hearing a clean water case at Supreme Court (SC) Karachi registry, CJP expressed resentment over unhygienic condition of the metropolis, saying that there are mosquitoes everywhere due to heaps of garbage on the roads.

He also warned him of inspecting two nullahs in Karachi. If the system has improved then why it is not completely working, asked CJP.

He also requested the locals to stop appreciating him as he is only fulfilling his duties.

Meanwhile, mayor Waseem put forward his complaints, saying that piles of trash are increasing day-by-day and that there are thousands of patients in hospitals with less space.

The local authorities had decided to seek Rangers and police‘s assistance to end encroachments along the nullahs for cleanliness purpose but all went in vain.

Accumulation of garbage in absence of an effective disposal system has become a serious health hazard creating numerous infectious and other diseases in certain parts of the city.

Several areas already lack proper facilities for the collection and lifting of garbage resulting in insanitary conditions quite visible in almost all the localities of each town.
