The Supreme Court on Monday directed Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Talal Chaudhry to submit reply in contempt of court case till Monday.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Ijazul Ahsan conducted hearing and rejected Chaudhry’s 10-day respite appeal to submit reply.
After the demise of Asma Jehangir, Talal Chaudhry appointed Kamran Murtaza as his counsel who told court that since his appointment is new in the case, he wants time to file a reply.
The judge remarked that this stance was also adopted in the last hearing. “I have my personal reasons. I am taking part in Senate elections and have not received any notice yet,” said Murtaza.
The judge responded that how it is possible that no notice has been sent yet. The court after hearing arguments adjourned the hearing till February 26.
Previusly, the court had issued show cause notice to the PML-N leader.
It is to be mentioned here that suo moto notice was taken after Talal denigrated Panama Case verdict on myriad occasions.
While equating judges with idols in Jaranwala rally, Talal urged PML-N president Nawaz Sharif to oust them from courts. He said there was no hope of justice till these judges were sitting in the courts.
Earlier, SC had also issued contempt of court notice to Minister of Privatisation Daniyal Aziz while proceeding against him will be launched from February 7.
The apex court had also sentenced former PML-N leader Nehal Hashmi to one month in prison over similar charges.
On May 28, Hashmi triggered a political storm by threatening the members of the joint investigation team (JIT) and Supreme Court judges of “dire consequences” after their retirement for probing Sharif family in connection with Panama Papers case.
