Former minister and ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, on Thursday suggested the government to avoid confrontation with institutions and accept verdicts of the courts. “Confrontation will not favour the government,” he said.

Talking to a news conference in Taxila, he told that the country is governed by democracy and rule of law, adding that the courts make verdicts based on facts. He stressed, “Court orders should be accepted and any kind of confrontation should be avoided.”

“It will cause damage to Nawaz Sharif and party (PML-N). Courts alone give verdicts in democratic and civilised societies.”

    Criticism on foreign policy

Former Interior Minister has largely opposed the new foreign policy narrative and subjected the government officials of severe criticism regarding their policy statements. On Thursday, something similar occurred when Nisar took a hit at Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif and expressed his fury against his remarks during interviews during the United States (US) visit and the offer to conduct joint operations within Pakistan.

Talking about the security situation, he reaffirmed that Pakistan Army is the fifth biggest armed force of the world and there is complete trust on the capability of army and intelligence agencies. He refuted the idea of joint operation with the US in Pakistan, calling it a violation of sovereignty. “An autonomous country cannot allow operation within its territory. Our forces are enough to carry out operations,” he stated.

He called the idea of joint operation contradictory to sovereign existence and pointed out that if a security operation is carried out in Pakistan, similar operation should be backed in Afghanistan. He suggested that the government to avoid criticising institutes and asked PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to take notice of such statements.

Talking about his performance as the federal minister for interior, he claimed that the ministry used to work actively in his time. He advised Khawaja Asif to work rather than giving statements, saying cleansing of own house will yield good results.

    On reported rift within PML-N

He also rejected the notion of any forward block in PML-N. “I cannot talk nice to please the government,” he told while admitting that three or four incidents occurred after 2013 which he brought into the notice of ex-PM Nawaz Sharif. Nisar bashed opposition member Sheikh Rasheed saying his politics is based on hopelessness.
