    Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday took notice of the assassination attempt on Mutahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) leader, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, in Karachi.

    Meanwhile, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal has assured MQM-Pakistan Chairman Farooq Sattar of prompt action against perpetrators.

    According to details, Hassan was leaving for his house after offering Eid-ul-Azha prayers when perpetrators dressed in police uniform fired gunshots at Hassan in Buffer Zone area of Karachi.

    However, a police vehicle obstructed the alleged terrorists as they were about to run away from the scene. The alleged terrorists and police indulged in a cross fire which injured a terrorist.

    Despite being injured, the alleged terrorist ran for his life and entered into the streets of Shadman Town. However, people got hold of the alleged terrorist and assaulted him. When police and Rangers arrived at the scene, the alleged terrorist had already died.

    According to Inspector General of Police (IG) Sindh, the alleged terrorist was killed in an encounter some distance from the crime scene.

    Earlier, Police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and intelligence agencies reached the crime scene to investigate the assassination attempts on Khwaja Izharul Hassan.

    According to details, 32 shells of 9mm pistol were found from the crime scene. Moreover, investigators have also found the motorcycle of terrorists which is without a number plate. All the evidence was sent to the forensic laboratory for forensic analysis.

    Progress in Investigation

    Those involved in investigating assassination attempt on Khawaja Izharul Hassan have claimed that they have identified the group and people behind the attack. However, IG Sindh has ordered them to keep it a secret. The alleged terrorist was wearing a standard police uniform that is usually worn by an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI).
