  • PTI suggests name of Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid for new CEC

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday suggested the name of Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid for the post of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), while consultation is underway within Jamat e Islami (JI) in this regard.

    Political parties after all suggested three names for the post of CEC, which included Justice (R) Rana Bhagwan Das, Justice (R) Mian Ajmal and Justice (R) Saeed uz Zaman Siddiqui.

    The JI emir, Sirajul Haq told that consultation is underway within his party about the names proposed by the Opposition Leader, Khursheed Shah.

    Talking to media at Wagah border earlier today, Shah Mehmood Qureshi proposed the name of Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid, adding that the name was suggested after consultation with the PTI chairman, Imran Khan.

    Qureshi admitted that Khursheed Shah has also proposed names of some noted and respectable figures for the post.

    The office of the CEC is lying vacant after Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim tendered his resignation over allegations of irregularities in General Elections 2013.
