  • Balochistan unrest: SC dismayed at AG's absence

    Attorney general didn’t appear before the court despite court orders.The Supreme Court resumed hearing of a petition on the law and order situation in Balochistan on Tuesday.

    A three-judge bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, heard the case at Supreme Court Quetta registry.Expressing dissatisfaction over the absence of attorney general, the bench reordered him to appear today.Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked that the absence of attorney general clearly indicates the interest federal government had in Balochistan matters.Talal Bugti, son of Akbar Bugti, also appeared before the court.During Monday’s hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar inquired over the killings of Shia Muslims in the province. He ordered to submit a list of victims of targeted killings in the province over the past six months.The chief justice said that police officials were violating court’s orders and the situation had deteriorated to the extent that a district judge was assassinated along with his security guard.
