Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday let it be known to all hospital administrations in the province that he is the representative of the poor and not theirs.

While talking to media after visiting Multan Institute of Kidney Disease, he said that provision of facilities to the patients is a priority.

“The aim of constructing modern hospitals worth billions of rupees is not that patients are buying medicines from their own pocket. I will not tolerate that the patients are not being given free medicines despite no decline in funds from government. Orders to remove the defects in the kidney centre’s construction were issued in March however; no implementation has yet been made on it.

In view of the non-compliance, SDO Building, XEN and Director Planning have been suspended from their posts,” said Punjab CM.

He visited the patients and inquired them about the provision of medicines and treatment. Punjab CM reprimanded the hospital administration after receiving complaints of inaccessibility of medicines from some patients.

He ordered the authorities to return the money for medicine to the patients. While taking notice of the long queues of patients, he directed the administration to provide further facilities.

The CM visited the entire hospital and suspended the relevant staff after reviewing the condition of walls and non-availability of water in washrooms.

PML-N Government has abolished VIP culture and now social services are afforded to the common man as well. The Government will ensure availability of free of cost necessary medicines to patients in hospitals,” he said.
