    Momina Mustehsan, who became an overnight sensation following her rendition of Afreen Afreen in Coke Studio 9 with legendary Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, finally spoke over her broken engagement and said that she got engaged because both the families wanted it.

    Revealing the reason behind her split-up with Ali Naqvi in an interview to Khaleej Times, 24-year-old singer who left the fans enchanted with her appealing looks and mesmerizing voice, said: “My fiance and I didn’t even know each other well around that time. We met for the first time only two-and-a-half weeks prior to the engagement.”

    “Ali was extremely supportive. We were open to the idea of knowing each other better, and that’s why we did not want the news of the engagement to reach out to the public," she added.

    Mustehsan, the one of the most sought-after celebrities in Pakistan’s glamour fraternity, said that she had to come out and give an official statement because her engagement photographs were everywhere on social media whereas some fake accounts also suggested that ther were a still from a TVC shoot.

    The singer complained over the role of media and critics in selling her personal life and said “everyone was writing about it or talking about it as if they were rubbing it in my face.”

    Momina stood strong and tall during one of the most difficult times in her life.

    "When you are in the public eye, you cannot give anyone even the slightest glimpse of your unhappiness. The good thing that came out of this was that a lot of young girls, who had gone through a similar setback, wrote to me, admiring the way I had conducted myself during this time," she continued.

    Investment banker Ali Naqvi and coke studio fame Mustehsan announced their engagement last year however, within months, both parted their ways.

    Momina Mustehsan rose to fame as a co-singer and writer in Farhan Saeed’s song ’Pee Jaun’ whereas she also recorded a song ‘Awari’ for the band Soch that made it to the Bollywood movie Ek Villain in 2014.

    In 2016, she recorded her first song ‘Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay’ for a romantic drama film whereas she had also released the anthem for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United in February 2017.
