ISLAMABAD – The Prime Minister's 100 per cent Fee Reimbursement Scheme (PMFRS) for more than 3,300 post-graduate students of recognised public sector universities of Azad Jammu Kashmir will be launched at Muzaffrabad on Tuesday.
This was decided in a high-level meeting chaired Maryam Nawaz who heads the the Prime Minister's Youth Programme. The meeting decided to disburse 100 per cent educational expenses reimbursement cheques under the Fee Reimbursement Scheme of more than 85 million rupees among the students of the state.
The first ever 100 per cent scheme was launched in Balochistan by Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on May 21 and successively by Maryam Nawaz in Peshawar, Multan and Murree earlier this month. The post-graduate students of interior Sindh and Bahawalpur also availed the reimbursement of 100 per cent educational expenses earlier this month.
The meeting also decided to expand both the demographic and geographic coverage of the scheme during the coming fiscal year 2014-15 for the students hailing from the less developed districts in addition to Southern Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Tribal Areas, interior Sindh, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir currently undertaking MA, MSc, MS, MPhil or PhD courses from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognised public sector universities.
Maryam said that out of total more than 40,000 post-graduate students belonging to less developed areas so far more than 35,000 post-graduate students have benefitted across the federation from Rs 1.2 billion scheme launched to encourage the quest of higher education for students facing financial constraints.
Under the scheme, she said 100 per cent reimbursement of educational expenses upto Rs 100,000 for the financially underprivileged students of the less developed areas of the country was a big leap forward towards attainment of higher education.
