A delegation of the Asia-Pacific Group (APG), a regional affiliate of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), has started its three-day talks with Pakistan delegation from today.

Pakistan delegation will comprise heads of law enforcement agencies, finance ministry, state bank, FIA and SECP.

The second draft Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) will be reviewed during talks that what steps have been taken by Pakistan for preventing financial assistance to terrorists and money laundering.

It is the last opportunity for Pakistan to satisfy FATF group with reference to matters related to financing terrorists and prevention of money laundering.

In case Pakistan fails to satisfy the FATF delegation to remove its name from the “grey list”, then a new plan of action can be given to the country.

Pakistan had filed reply to its first report on January 22, 2019 wherein recommendation were made for improvement in ranking. But FATF has not improved rating of Pakistan and nor has it attached any importance to Pakistan arguments.

Pakistani authorities, who will enter into talks with the delegation, have said that Pakistan has taken solid steps for preventing bankrolling to the terrorists.

Islamabad has also launched effective measures to stop money laundering.

Earlier this month, Pakistan started crackdown on proscribed outfits and a ban has been imposed on Jamat ul Dawat and Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation.
