Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday announced that fuel prices would remain the same for the next fortnight which ends on January 31.

“We are not changing the prices. The price of petrol will remain at Rs214.80, diesel will remain at Rs227.80, price of kerosene oil to remain at Rs171.83 while light diesel oil will remain at Rs169,” he said.

Earlier this month, the government announced to maintain the prices of petroleum products at current levels to provide some relief to the masses.

On December 15, the government cut the price of petrol by Rs10 and diesel by Rs7.5.

The price of kerosene oil was slashed by Rs10 on Nov 30 while the price of light diesel oil was reduced by Rs7.5 per litre.

The government had previously kept the prices of all petroleum products unchanged on Oct 15, Oct 30, and Nov 15.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar while addressing the media in Lahore on important decisions taken by the ruling coalition said that petroleum prices would be "maintained as they are" and no changes would be implemented for the remaining 15 days of January.

"Petroleum prices will remain as they are at Rs214.80 per litre. Diesel is being sold for Rs227.80 per litre and will remain as it is. Kerosene oil is currently priced at Rs171.83 per litre and that will also remain unchanged. Further, light diesel oil (LDO) i presently priced at Rs. 179 per liter, and that too shall remain unchanged for the next 15 days", he clarified.

In a joint press conference earlier this week, the minister had clarified that the government was not considering any access to foreign exchange reserves held by the commercial banks, which he had said were the property of the citizens.

"I have already said that Pakistan’s reserves are $10 billion. The figures I quoted were based on the principle that national foreign exchange reserves always include forex held with SBP and Commercial Banks," he said while replying to a question in the press conference held here along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
