United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon asked Iran on Monday to Help Peace in Syria and exercise its influence in promoting a political solution for Syria conflict to reach a peaceful resolution.

United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Monday "reiterated that there is no military solution to the conflict in Syria and asked Iran to exercise its influence in promoting a political solution."

Referring to Iran’s special position in the region, the UN chief called for closer cooperation between Iran and the world body on the settlement of crises.

Zarif, for his part, rejected military action as a solution to the conflicts in the region, saying Iran has always favored a political solution to end the crises.

Ban said the UN and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are prepared to help with the JCPOA’s implementation.
