Weak wireless connection or slow speed is a big issue for people trying to connect their internet for either using social media, playing games or carrying out important tasks.

To solve this issue, researchers have come up with a simple hack. All one has to do is to use aluminum foil on the WI-FI router to hike its speed. This is not only a cheap solution but also immensely effective for household or office usage.

Dartmouth University researchers initially conducted an experiment in which they aluminum foil can actually enhance speed of WI-FI, its range and security. It was found that only a 3D printed shape covered in aluminum foil is needed for this purpose.

This 3D printed shape covered in aluminum foil is put on the wireless router for WI-FI and the results are amazing for users. The experiment was presented in Eurekalert. It was seen that when aluminum foil is placed around a Wi-Fi router’s antennae, it enhances the ranger of signals and prevents the signals to unwanted places.

Dartmouth assistant professor Xia Zhou said, “With a simple investment of about $35 and specifying coverage requirements, a wireless reflector can be custom-built to outperform antennae that cost thousands of dollars.”

Zhou and his colleagues conducted a whole research on the relation between aluminum foil and antennas. Tech Crunch wrote that they have created a program called WiPrint that can 3D print the shape needed to form the beams to give better signals and security. Once printed all you have to do is cover them in aluminum foil.

The reflectors on router’s antennas can direct Wi-Fi signals to avoid unwanted spaces and increase increasing security as well as coverage. The move can help reduce beam loss out of the windows or in places where there is no need.
