  • Turns out Serena Williams' pregnancy announcement was all an accident

Regardless of whether or not you hold the title of the greatest athlete in the world, Serena Williams is only human and makes mistakes, just like the rest of us. Only her mishap happened to spur countless of headlines this month.

While in conversation with Gayle King at the 2017 Ted Talks conference, Williams explained that her Snapchat mirror-selfie that revealed a 20-week baby bump was all an accident.

"I was on vacation just taking some time for myself and I have this thing where I’ve been checking my status and taking pictures every week to see how far along I’m going. I didn’t tell a lot of people to be quite honest and I’d been saving it," she told King in front of an audience in Vancouver, BC.

"On social media, you press the wrong button and… 30 minutes later I missed four calls and I’m like, ‘That’s weird.’ But it was a good moment. I was only going to wait five or six more days [to share the announcement]," she said.

Williams went on to explain that she found out she was pregnant just two days before the Australian Open.

The tennis star, who has already had to battle racist remarks towards her unborn child, was worried about whether or not she could participate. But, because she's Serena Williams, of course she ended up winning another Grand Slam title. No big deal.
