Twenty-three-year-old Anum Amin took four wickets to guide Pakistan Women to a six-wicket win over Bangladesh Women at the Southend Club Cricket Stadium in Karachi as the hosts completed a 2-0 whitewash on Tuesday.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh were restricted to just 123-9 in their allotted 50 overs as player-of-the-match Anum took four wickets, giving away only seven runs, in her 10 overs with five maidens. Meanwhile, Asmavia Iqbal also impressed with figures of 3-28.

Bangladesh opener Ayasha Rahman was the top scorer for her side with 39, while Nigar Sultana (30) and Ritu Moni (28) were the other two batsmen to reach double figures.

Chasing 124, Pakistan lost Javeria Khan early on for seven but managed to reach the target in just 38.3 overs with the loss of four wickets.

Player of the series Bismah Maroof scored 41 off 66 balls, building up a 43-run partnership with Marina Iqbal, who scored 37 off 67 balls.

Bangladesh’s Nahida Akter claimed 2-22 but found precious little support save for Rumana Ahmed, the only other bowler to take a wicket with figures of 1-13.

Left-arm spinner Anum said that her performance was down to the efforts of the coach and the management. “I just tried to bowl a tight line; the wickets were just an added bonus,” she said. “Claiming seven wickets in the series is a big achievement for me.”

Bismah, who was declared player of the series in both the T20Is and the ODIs, said she was happy to deliver for the team. “I have always tried to do well for the team, I am glad that my hard work paid off,” she said.

The 24-year-old also praised the support they received from the home crowd. “I cannot describe the feeling I got when young girls were chanting my name,” she said. “This was only possible in my home ground and I am happy to perform well in front of them.”

Meanwhile, winning skipper Sana Mir praised her team’s performance and said that fast-bowler Asmavia fulfilled her role perfectly, especially considering the upcoming series against the West Indies.

“We needed our fast-bowlers to deliver,” she said. “We had been claiming wickets with spin but Anum did tremendously well today and that bodes well for the series against the West Indies.”

Meanwhile, losing captain Salma Khatun was left ruing her side’s poor batting display. “We scored quite low; if we had scored above 170 then a win was possible but we lost some early wickets which cost us,” she said.
