    Election Commission of Pakistan on Thursday referred Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-P) candidate’s petition challenging PPP’s Saeed Ghani’s victory in PS-114 by-elections and seeking recounting of votes to Election Tribunal.

    The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had stayed the notification of PPP candidate Saeed Ghani’s victory in the PS-114 elections.

    A five-member bench of ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Sardar Raza Khan heard the petition filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) candidate Kamran Tessori for a vote recount.

    After hearing arguments of the both the parties, the ECP pronounced its verdict. The ECP referred the matter to Election Tribunal to decide.

    MQM-P had requested the ECP to order the returning officer to conduct a recount of votes for the recently-held elections in PS-114 in Karachi.

    PPP’s Saeed Ghani had secured 23,840 votes against MQM-P candidate Kamran Tessori’s 18,106 votes, according to unofficial results.
