The PPP launched a an 'anti-loadshedding' protest movement in Sindh on Sunday calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Opposition parties have, after the Supreme Court's Panamagate verdict last week, renewed a unanimous call for the resignation of the premier ─ at least for the duration of a probe by a Joint Investigation Team ordered by the apex court.
The PPP protested in Larkana, Mithi, Badin and Shikarpur, where party workers gathered holding banners with anti-government slogans. Protests were also held in Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Kandhkot, Jacobabad, Nawabshah, Ghotki, Sanghar, Khairpur and other districts.
Senior PPP lawmaker Nisar Khuhro, while addressing party workers in Larkana, maintained that in light of the Panamagate verdict, the prime minister no longer had the moral authority to remain at his post.
Khuhro claimed that the premier had no moral or legal authority to remain the country's chief executive.
"His [PM Nawaz's] cronies have crossed all the limits of decency in usurping the rights of the smaller provinces, including Sindh," Khuhro said.
He warned that if prime minister did not resign he would be "thrown out of prime minister house."
The lawmaker said that the party's movement calling for the ouster of the prime minister would continue untll their demands were met.
Demands for the prime minister's resignation were also made during the PPP's protest in Mithi which were led by Senator Gayan Chand, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Fakeer Sher Mohammad Bilalani, Member of Parliamentary Assembly (MPA) Dr Mehesh Kumar Malani, MPA Dost Mohammad Rahimoon, MPA Dr Khatoo Mal Jeevan, chairman of district council Thar, Dr Ghulam Haider Samejo, Ms Samtra Devi, Susheel Malani and other PPP leaders led the demonstration outside the office of Municipal Committee.
Leaders observed that power outages had made the lives of Sindh's people miserable.
In Badin, a large number of people gathered at Allah Wala Chowk under the leadership of MNA Sardar Kamal Khan Chang, Member of Parliamentary Assembly MPA Mir Allah Bux Talpur, Haji Sain Bux Jamali, Fida Hussain Mandhro and others, where charged PPP workers protested for three hours.
In Shikarpur, PPP workers gathered under the leadership of MPA Abid Bhayo, Dr Asad Tareen, Attaullah Pathan at Khanpur bypass road.
