Two low-intensity explosions damaged portions of railway tracks near Sindh's Mehrabpur and Rohri cities on Wednesday evening.

Superintendent Police (SP) Special Branch Mansoor Mughal said that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) went off, damaging a part of a railway track in the Misri Shah area near Rohri Railway Station.

Mughal added that the service of Karachi-bound Shalimar Express that passes through Rohri has been halted until the track is repaired.

According to the Bomb Disposal Squad, some 2.5 kilogrammes of explosive material was used in the blast.

Law enforcement and police officials have cordoned off the area and started their initial investigations.

In a separate incident, SP Railway Police Malik Ateeq told media that a cracker blast at the Mehrabpur Railway Station damaged a foot-long part of the track, interrupting trains travelling up and down the tracks.

Ateeq also said that repair work was underway to restore the route.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blasts.
