  • Traffic police stopped from performing field duty after targeted attacks

    The top authorities of Karachi traffic police have decided to immediately withdraw its sergeants from field duty in the District West in view of recent terrorist attacks.

    According to a letter issued by Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police District West, Muhammad Ahsan Malik, traffic sections situated in the sensitive areas of the District West are ordered to close till further orders.

    The letter reads ‘the staff of the traffic sections will remain present at their respective offices but will not perform field duty.’

    The sensitive areas as identified by the traffic police are

    Orangi Town
    Manghopir
    SMA

    Over five traffic police sergeants have been shot dead in Karachi in last 10 days. Two traffic policemen were killed while performing their duty in busy Sunday Bazaar in East Zone last Sunday (August 30), while earlier two policemen also helping the police to ease a traffic jam in Saddar were gunned down.

    In a recent killing, a traffic police constable was shot dead while two others were wounded in an armed attack in the SITE-B area on Wednesday (September 2).
