At least six Pakistani civilians including one woman and a child were killed and 46 others injured as mortar shells fired from the Indian side landed in different areas of Sialkot, a district in Pakistan s eastern Punjab province, which borders India.

According to details, Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) personnel resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling along the Working Boundary in Sialkot s Bajragarh, Sujeetgarh, Harpal and Chaprar sectors early Friday morning.

Mostly civlians have been affected by the attacks and many houses have been partially damaged in different villages including Umranwali, Kundanpur, Thathi Khurd, Thathi Kalan, Mahendarwal, Khanor, Jamal Jand, Dhamalan, Harpal, Anola, Harnawali, Dhol Malanay, Suhailpur, Salehpur and Nandpur were affected due Indian firing and shelling.

The injured have been shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

Meanwhile, the Punjab Rangers have responded befittingly to the Indian firing.

Despite the 2003 cease-fire agreement, the Indian side regularly targets Pakistani posts and civilian settlements along the Line of Control (LoC).

The recent attack comes few days ahead of talks between India and Pakistan border security force chiefs who will meet in New Delhi from September 9 to 13.

The agenda for the meeting would include recent firing over the Line of Control, the de facto frontier in the divided Kashmir region, as well as cross-border smuggling.

There have been over 70 ceasefire violations from the Indian side of the LoC and the Working Boundary during this month.
