At least six newborn babies died on Wednesday due to lack of incubators in District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Sargodha whereas Chief Minister Punjab (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has also taken notice.

Relatives of the infants alleged hospital administration for negligence and claimed that oxygen disruption led to the deaths. Government Maula Baksh Hospital is the only hospital for women’s maternity located at a distance of half kilometer from DHQ Teaching Hospital due to which most of the children died during their shifting to DHQ Hospital, however, ages of victims were in between 2 to 8 hours. According to details, DHQ hospital has five incubators and admitted children were 60 but last night, 22 more children in critical situation have been shifted to hospital in two hours.

On the other hand, hospital administration has also called on additional staff for child ward. Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent (MS) Government Teaching Hospital Dr. Iqbal Sami has made an inquiry committee to investigate the cause of deaths. The committee comprises of Dr. Arshad Rauf, Dr. Shahid Manzoor, and lady doctor Rabbiya Hashim. Moreover, CM Punjab has taken notice and ordered Secretary Health to submit a complete report on this issue.
