At least three Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel embraced martyrdom and three others were injured in a roadside bomb blast in the volatile northwestern city of Peshawar on Tuesday morning.

According to police, an improvised explosive device (IED) placed on the roadside in Bashirabad area detonated when FC officials, along with several others were attending funeral prayers of the press club’s former president’s mother.

Police and bomb disposal squad immediately arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.

The bodies and injured persons were shifted to nearby hospitals.

Peshawar sits on the edge of Pakistan’s lawless tribal region that was home to the Taliban and al-Qaida-linked Islamic groups. Pak Army in June 2014 launched a massive offensive in the region to clear the militant hideouts.

Earlier on Saturday, three paramilitary soldiers and a policeman were killed when gunmen opened fire in southwestern city of Quetta.
