    In occupied Kashmir, a total of 8,587 people were arrested during the ongoing uprising in the Valley till January 22, puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti confirmed while speaking in the so-called Kashmir Assembly. The actual number of people arrested during the uprising is higher than what the puppet Chief Minister said which is 10,329.

    Mehbooba Mufti was replying to a question of National Conference member, Mohammad Akbar Lone in the House. She also admitted that 76 civilians were killed during the ongoing uprising. However, independent sources put the number of such deaths over 115.

    Around 522 persons were detained under the draconian Public Safety Act as on January 21, she further said. However, Mehbooba said the details of injured persons, including those who lost eyesight, is being compiled. She said that most of the detainees were released.

    Meanwhile, pro-India National Council member from Badgam, Agha Syed Ruhullah lamenting that Mehbooba exercised the use of PSA excessively in 2016 without caring the age of persons said, “From last two years footsteps of army personnel has increased in Kashmir even though it was on the agenda of alliance to demilitarize the territory.”
