The central working committee of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) passed a resolution on Monday reposing its confidence in the leadership of deposed PM Nawaz Sharif.

The committee held its meeting at Punjab House in Islamabad where Senator Mushahidullah Khan presented the resolution.

The resolution also highlighted Nawaz’s four-year performance and achievements as the premier.

The members of the committee unanimously passed the resolution and also approved amendments to the PML-N’s constitution that will allow a member disqualified from holding a public office to be appointed to a party post, basically allowing Nawaz to become its chief again.

Nawaz had to step down as PML-N chief after his disqualification from holding public office under the top court’s Panama Papers case verdict.

The recent passage of the Elections Bill 2017– a set of laws to reform the country’s election system – by both the lower and upper houses of parliament has already paved the way for the former prime minister to once again take the helm of the PML-N.

As the bill has already been passed by the National Assembly, it will be returned to the lower house on Monday for fresh votes on the Senate’s amendments. Given the PML-N’s majority in the lower house, this should be smooth sailing. Later, the bill will would land on President Mamnoon Hussain’s desk for a signature approving it as law.

On Tuesday, Nawaz is set to be elected the head of the party again.
