The newly formed federal cabinet, in its first meeting on Friday, vowed to take forward the vision of former premier Nawaz Sharif and decided to assemble every week.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. He congratulated the federal ministers and ministers of state on becoming a part of the cabinet.

Prime Minister Abbasi, in his first address to the cabinet, outlined his future plans and promised to continue what he called the journey of progress and democracy initiated by Nawaz Sharif.

He reiterated that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, as well as all other ongoing projects for energy infrastructure development, economic revival, and the fight against terrorism to promote peace in the region and the world, would be carried out in true letter and spirit.

The prime minister reportedly assured the moral and diplomatic support of Pakistan to the people of Kashmir in their fight for the right of self-determination.

PM Abbasi vowed to complete the 10-year developmental plans in next 10 months. He showed his gratitude to PML-N leadership for showing trust in him by nominating him to run the country as its premier.

He was of the view that the cabinet will simultaneously work on both short term goals and long-term targets.

Abbasi directed all ministers to give presentations on their ministries in coming days to apprise him about their working. He told the cabinet that all ministers can approach him anytime and assured them that he would always be accessible to them.

It was decided that the cabinet meetings will be convened almost once in a week. The prime minister assured the participants that they were free to raise any issue in the meeting so that it could be addressed.

The future meetings of the cabinet will be held in the evening to avoid disruption in office workings, Abbasi added.

He encouraged the cabinet members to increase the use of technology so as to enhance efficiency in the governmental departments.

The message of our performance should be translated into action, he asserted.

Abbasi asked the cabinet members to participates in the Parliament sessions and assured them that he would also be attending all sessions of the Parliament.
