A meeting of opposition parties here on Monday failed to name a joint candidate for Prime Minister.

The parliamentary leaders of opposition parties was held here to filed a joint candidate for prime minister against the PML-N and allies candidate Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

The meeting remained inconclusive as the parties failed to name a consensus candidate to face the government nominee.

From opposition parties, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) members submitted separate nomination papers.

Yesterday’s criticism of Zardari by PTI chief Imran Khan has angered PPP and Khurshid Shah has strongly reacted to it.

Although the PML-N holds a majority in the National Assembly and can easily elect its own candidate, the opposition intends to ‘put up a fight’.

However, a meeting of opposition parties held in the chamber of Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah failed to come up with a united candidate.

MQM-P candidate, PPP’s Khursheed Shah and MNA Naveed Qamar also submitted their nomination papers following the meeting.

Opposition parties leaders decided to meet again on Tuesday before the election to evolve consensus on a single candidate.
