Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Friday urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to stand his ground on resignation calls from the opposition and not step down.

The JUI-f chief questioned, while addressing a press conference, how those who had resigned from parliament ask the premier to step down.

"You are teaching morality to the one who is constitutionally your prime minister," said Fazl while criticising the prime minister's opponents.

Fazl added that Panamagate was not an issue; rather the economic future of the country was being sabotaged on allegations of corruption.

"Institutions are being made controversial by giving a perception of confrontation between them," he said, adding that the country ca not afford any crisis.

The JUI-F chief related the present political turmoil to a 'great game' aimed at disrupting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). "CPEC is a game-changer and the United States and India want to disrupt it. We opposed sit-ins to pave way for completion of this project."

Fazl further said that Khursheed Shah, who had been siding with the premier to save democracy, is now siding with those from whom he had been protecting the democratic system in the country.

The JUI-F chief went on to question the lack of hype regarding corruption cases in KP.
