Deadlock over the Terms of References (TORs) that cater the investigation of the Panama Leaks issue persists between the government and the Opposition as no important breakthrough could be achieved in yet another meeting of the parliamentary committee.

The government members presented four more clauses catering the issue but the Opposition members state that the deadlock still persists.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi stated that the government does not want the Sharif family to be held accountable, adding that situation within the parliamentary committee has not been changed.

He also said that only reaching agreement over the TORs would be insignificant as legislation needs to be done to deal with the issue.

Opposition leaders stated that further dialogue with the government side shall be carried out on Tuesday after consultation regarding the issue is done with other parties belonging to the Opposition on Monday.

Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique while conversing with the media stated that the Supreme Court had reservations over certain points in the TORs presented by the government.

He stated that three documents have been presented to the Opposition members till now, further stating that the government is all set to do legislation on the issue but other matters also need to be considered while making a law that addresses the issue.

Saad Rafique further stated that there never was any deadlock before nor there is any as of now, “doing such discussion is unnecessary”, he said.

The federal minister said that there was some hussle in the previous meetings of the parliamentary committee owing to the health condition of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif.

Railways Minister added that all members of the TORs committee are moving forward with utmost responsibility, further stating that if the Opposition has asked for more time then it would be out of good faith.

He stated that the issue shall be resolved instead of adopting a stubborn attitude over it.

Saad Rafique said that such a law needs to be introduced that curbs all such individuals involved in converting black money into white.
