A local court on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for PML-N's Sheikh Rohail Asghar and his driver in an accidental homicide case.

Judicial Magistrate Islamabad, Hamayun Dilawar, after hearing of the case against MNA Asghar and his driver, Zulfiqar Ahmed, issued non-bailable arrest warrants for the two after they failed to appear before the magistrate.

The complainant, Shaheen Bibi, has accused MNA Asghar of killing her husband in a road accident last year. The hearing of the case has been postponed for an indefinite period of time.

The petition accusing the MNA of Qatal-e-Khata (murder by mistake) was lodged on January 21, seeking directives for the SSP and SHO Kohsar police station to register a case against the accused MNA.

In February, a lower court ordered police to register a case against the MNA, The woman claimed that her husband, who was a security guard, was hit by a car driven by the MNA under the influence of alcohol. The husband died later at PIMS while undergoing treatment.

The deceased’s son, Israr Hassan alleged the MNA had been driving the car when it hit his father, Asghar later claimed his driver was the one driving. Sheikh Rohail Asghar had maintained that he was at a news channel when the accident occurred, adding that the woman and her son were blackmailing him for money.

He added that the victim’s son had pardoned the driver in a written statement on an affidavit which was with the police. “I paid the family Rs270,000, but they want more now,” he said.

Kohsar police station’s SHO had confirmed that the MNA’s driver was driving the vehicle when the accident happened and that the legislator was at a news channel. He said the MNA had compensated the family.
