  • Allama Iqbal’s 138th birth anniversary being celebrated today

    The 138th birth anniversary of poet philosopher Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal is being celebrated today.

    Allama Muhammad Iqbal had conceived the idea of Pakistan.

    In his message on the occasion, In his message on Iqbal Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif urged the nation to seek guidance from the life and teachings of Pakistan's national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

    He said the day demands that we follow in the light of his great philosophical thought. There is a need to ponder over Allama Iqbal's great works and find a way out of all the ills afflicting the society today.

    He said Allama Iqbal had a vision of a society that is tolerant, democratic, independent and believes in hard work and sought knowledge.

    The change of guard ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore this morning.

    A smartly-turned Pakistan Navy's contingent took over the charge from the Punjab Rangers.

    Station Commander Navy Lahore Commodore S.M. Shahzad was chief guest on the occasion.

    On the occasion, renowned poets will pay homage to the great poet of the East and eminent singers will sing Iqbal's poetry.

    Prominent poets, literary figures and intellectuals will participate in a function at Pakistan Academy of Letters Islamabad to pay homage to Allama Iqbal.

    An important ceremony will be held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal in Lahore in which renowned intellectuals and scholars will highlight thoughts, poetry and his services for the creation of Pakistan.

    Aiwan-e-Karkunan-e-Nazria-e-Pakistan is also organizing a ceremony.

    Similarly, other various literary, educational, political, social and cultural organizations have arranged special programmes to pay homage to the national poet.
