  • Consultations over Yemen situation underway: President

    President Mamnoon Hussain Saturday said that the consultations with friendly countries over the matter of Yemen were underway.

    Expressing concern over the situation in Yemen, the President emphasized on early resolution of the conflict for stability of the region.

    He was talking to Ambassador of the European Union and Head of the European Union Delegation to Pakistan, Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, said a press release.

    The President emphasized that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with the European Union, and highlighted the great value Pakistan placed on its strategic partnership with it.

    He said that Pakistan enjoyed excellent relations with all the 28 EU-member countries and highlighted Pakistan's interest in the continued engagement with the EU beyond 2017.

    He also underscored the need for both sides to work on a framework to carry this mutually beneficial relationship forward.

    "Partnership between Pakistan and the EU is marked by shared democratic values, principles of mutual respect, trust and cooperation," he added.

    The President underlined Pakistan's keen anticipation of the convening of the Third Pakistan-EU Summit in Brussels in 2015 and expressed the hope that the Summit would be productive for cementing the bonds further.

    About the Karachi operation, he said that it would continue indiscriminately against all the criminals until the peace was restored in the city.

    The President also appreciated the outgoing ambassador for his assistance and support in enabling Pakistan to qualify for the GSP plus Scheme in December 2013 which had resulted in an increase in trade with the EU by over $1 billion in 2014.

    He also wished the ambassador well in his future assignment.
