  • Ordinance voids right of four votes for FATA members

Senate of Pakistan Senate of Pakistan

The standard operating procedure of Senate elections from FATA has been modified as a FATA parliamentarian will now be entitled to only one vote as against the past practice of four votes.

A presidential ordinance has been issued for the purpose. According to the notification, the previous presidential ordinance of 2002 that allowed four votes to each FATA member, has been withdrawn.

The latest notification that seemed to stanch the pre-election vote manipulation, was issued at the summary of the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON).

Very significantly, the ordinance served to smash the alliance of six MNAs from FATA that envisages the ‘unopposed’ election of three MNAs on Senate seats.
