    At least seventeen convicted terrorists will be executed during one week across the country, News report of Monday.

    After execution of six death row inmates in Faisalabad, another four convicted terrorists including Zahid, Ahsan, Kamran and Umar at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail are likely to be hanged soon. They were involved in Gujrat Army Camp attack and attack on office of the intelligence agency in Multan.

    Moreoever, Bahawalpur Jail authorities have received death warrant of prisoner Nawaz, who will be hanged in next 24 hours while death warrants of two terrorists belonging to a banned organization have been sent to jail authorities in Sukkur. The two prisoners will be hanged at 6:00am on December 23 (Tuesday).

    There are 97 death row inmates at Mach Jail whereas 41 cases are being heard at high courts, 41 at Supreme Court while one case is being heard at shariah court. The President also has 14 mercy pleas of the prisoners.

    Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had lifted a six-year moratorium on capital punishment on Wednesday, vowing to eliminate terrorists in Pakistan.

    The federal and provincial government have drawn up lists of which prisoners would be sent to the gallows. Initial estimates have put the number of convicted terrorists awaiting execution at more than 3000.

    The government acted as public grief at last Tuesday s school massacre turned into angry demands for decisive action to end a seven-year Taliban insurgency that has claimed more than 60,000 lives. The death toll from the Peshawar attack rose to 148 on Thursday, as four more people succumbed to their wounds at the city`s Lady Reading Hospital.
