The Supreme Court of Pakistan today (Saturday) took suo moto notice of lynching of a Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan village in Punjab province.
The apex court has directed the provincial government to investigate the matter in three days and submit a reply. It may be mentioned here that few days back, brick kiln owner Yousaf Gujjar alongwith his accomplices tortured 32-year-old Shehzad Masih and his 20-year-old wife Shama to death. Later, their bodies were then set on fire in a brick kiln where they worked. The couple had been accused of burning a copy of the Holy Quran and throwing it in a bin. Punjab government had formed a commission to probe the incident. Police are interrogating 16 detained suspects as well. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had also announced Rs 5 million, 10 acres of land, free education and medical facilities to children of the couple.
