Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal, on Thursday held out assurance to PAT chief Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri that his concerns about formation of joint investigation team for inquiry of Model Town tragedy would be addressed by the government.

Dr. Qadri, the chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek who returned Pakistan from Canada today, has rejected inquiry of a joint investigation team into Model Town incident which claimed lives of his 14 party workers following clashes with police at Lahore in June this year. Qadri and PTI chief Imran Khan have been declared proclaimed offenders in a case pertaining to assault on SSP Islamabad Ismatullah Junejo. Arrest warrants have also been issued for them over incitement of violence during their anti-government protests in the federal capital.

Qadri has been Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi declared chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri, a proclaimed offender in a case pertaining to riots on Lahore-Islamabad motorway. “We welcome Mr.Qadri at home, if he has some reservation over formation of investigation team, we are ready to address it. I assure you that action will be taken against all those involved in the incident,” Iqbal spoke to reporters in Lahore after a ceremony. Replying to a question about Imran Khan’s promised Nov 30 rally in Islamabad, he said the masses would foil ‘conspiracy’ against country’s prosperity on the day.

“Khan should give up the politics of sit-ins and raise public issues in the Parliament,” the minister advised, claiming that the PTI chief was bent upon sabotaging Chinese investment in Pakistan.
