    Army chief meets top US senators File Photo

    Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Thursday held meetings with US senators and discussed bilateral relations during his first visit to US.

    According to ISPR, the army chief met senators of US Senate’s Armed Services Committee and Select Committee on Intelligence. Senator Robert Menendez, Senator Robert Corker, Senator John McCain and other were present in the meeting as General Sharif was accompanied by Pakistan's ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani. Yesterday, the army chief met Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey as top military leaders of the two countries discussed bilateral defense ties and regional security issues.

    “They also emphasized the importance of sustained and substantive dialogue as we continue to develop the bilateral military-to-military relationship,” Pentagon Spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a statement following the Pentagon talks.
