  • Cyclone Nilofar which is only 650km away from Karachi is not expected to hit the country

    Undergoing a weakening trend, Cyclone Nilofar which is only 650km away from Karachi is not expected to hit the country’s 1,046-km-long coastline.

    According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the cyclone is moving at the speed of 18km/hour towards the maritime boundaries of Pakistan and India. Chief meteorologist Tauseef Alam, said the cyclone will not directly hit the shoreline of Pakistan and will only pass by it at the distance of 250km in the evening or late at night. He, however, added that the cyclone which at the moment is in Oman’s coastal areas will touch Indian city of Gujrat. Heavy winds, rain and thunder are expected in the coastal areas of Pakistan with Karachi experiencing 20mm to 30mm of rain today and tomorrow. According to The Weather Channel, winds have weakened to the equivalent of tropical storm, with wind speeds of 70 mph. The intensity of the cyclone has reduced from Category 3 on Tuesday to Category 2 today and if it continues to weaken, it will be downgraded to Category 1 in the next few hours.
