Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has convened a joint meeting of government and Taliban negotiators in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The meeting will review progress in ongoing dialogue process. Matters pertaining to release of civilian prisoners and situation after end of ceasefire from Tehreek-e-Taliban side will also be discussed in the meeting.

According to sources, the meeting was earlier scheduled to take place on April 19, however, it could not take place due to interior ministry's engagement in other activities.

Maulana Yousaf Shah, a member of Taliban committee, said that talks are underway with TTP leadership to seek extension in ceasefire.

Earlier, the Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) said that the government had not responded adequately to its demands, and that the militants will therefore not be extending their 40-day cease-fire. However, a statement said the group is prepared to continue talks with "complete sincerity and seriousness."

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's government opened negotiations with the TTP in a bid to end the militant insurgency, which began in December 2007 and has claimed the lives of thousands of people.
