An Anti Polio drive could not be started on Monday in some parts of the city after the polio workers boycotted the campaign for non-payment of dues.

According to reports, the polio workers boycotted the campaign in sensitive areas of the city, including Katti Paharri, Nazimabad Town, SITE area, Orangi Town, and did not administer the polio drops to the children, saying they were not paid as per commitment.

Before the start of the campaign, officials said nearly 800,000 children were to be administered anti-polio drops in 97 Union Councils of Karachi. 11 of the UCs have been declared sensitive where 700 policemen, including commandos, have been deployed to protect health workers, doctors, volunteers and citizens during the campaign.

Inspector General of Police Sindh, Ghulam Haider Jamali, had directed the police officials to take effective security measures in sensitive areas and union councils during the drive.
