Pakistan's Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is about to become the first ever artist to co-chair the World Economic Forum.

A statement from Chinoy's office says she will also speak at the 47th World Economic Forum's annual three-day meeting starting January 17 in Davos, Switzerland. It says Chinoy regards it as a great honour to represent both the artistic community and her country.

The World Economic Forum is a Swiss non-profit organisation which has an annual meeting every January, where over 2,500 participants from 100 countries participate, including business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals, and journalists. The discussion revolves around the current pressures the world is facing.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also to take part in the meetings. Other speakers include Al Gore, Jamie Oliver and Karan Johar.
