Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Monday ordered suspension of Geo Entertainment’s program ‘Inam Ghar’ for three days and asked the host Aamir Liaquat to tender an apology for committing a violation of code of conduct during the program.

Pemra had earlier served a show cause notice to channel’s management on June 14 for airing inappropriate content during the episode televised on June 06. The notice was served over program host’s depiction of a girl committing suicide and use of foul words by a guest in quest to win prizes.

Pemra’s Council of Complaints today held a meeting in Karachi to review the notices served to Geo Entertainment. The members of the council also viewed a clip from Inam Ghar’s episode aired on June 25 that showed offensive remarks by a female caller.

A member also shared details of another clip at the meeting in which Liaquat is seen sticking to a pole and singing a song.

The representative of Geo Entertainment sought 15 days to file its reply in response to hundreds of complaints received pertaining to the program.

Listening to the channel’s stance, the council directed it to submit the reply immediately after Eid, saying that further action will be debated upon after submission of explanation by Geo Entertainment.

The concerned authority, after recommendation by the Council of Complaints, under Section 27, initially asked Geo Entertainment to not air program ‘Inam Ghar’ from June 28 to 30 and to make program host Aamir Liaquat issue a personal apology in the beginning of the program on July 01.

Pemra, in the statement, warned of further action in case of contempt of channel authorities
