Thai Ambassador Suchart Liengsaengthong on Tuesday stressed the need for increasing the people -to-people contact between the two countries to increase the trade volume. He was talking to the local traders and industrialists of Potohar region during his visit to Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) along with the delegation of Thai businessmen.

A 10-member trade delegation led by the ambassador met local traders to understand the business scope in the country especially in the Potohar region.

The members of the delegation represented some renowned companies dealing in hotel industry, manufacturers of cosmetics, food products, coconut juice, auto and auto spare parts, fan, sanitary and construction & industrial material.

Speaking to the local traders, Thai envoy said the basic purpose of bringing Thai businessmen was to remove some misconceptions about security situation in Pakistan and to provide them first-hand knowledge about the country’s business and economic potential.

He stressed the need for exchange of trade delegations between the trade communities. He appreciated the RCCI President’s suggestion of organising Pak-Thai business expo on reciprocal basis.

The RCCI president Raja Amer Iqbal said there were tremendous opportunities in different sectors especially in pharmaceutical, poultry and marble. He said the volume of bilateral trade was very low and there was a dire need to bring it to $5 billion from $1 Billion in next couple of years.

“Bilateral cooperation and exchange of trade delegations will help us to boost our trade volume,” he said.

He assured that Rawalpindi Chamber would fully cooperate with Thai entrepreneurs for forging business partnerships and investing money in Pakistan.

He gave a brief summary of the RCCI current events and future activities. He also invited Thai envoy for Rawal Exhibition 2017 being organised by RCCI on May 10-14.
