  • Strike of cargo service providers enter 3rd day

The movement of cargoes remained suspended at Karachi airport and sea ports for the third day on Thursday as cargo agents and freight forwarders continued their strike for withdrawal of eight per cent turnover tax on the services industry.

All outlets associated with the Pakistan International Freight Forwarders Association (PIFFA) and the Air Cargo Agents Association of Pakistan (ACAAP) went on an indefinite strike on Sept 1 against the tax.

According to Samaa correspondent, members of the PIFFA and ACAAP have stopped issuing delivery orders for the clearance of cargo across the country.

The protest has triggered a pile of over 1500 shipping containers at Karachi port, and halted the trade of $450 million due to the strike.
